Theatre Policies

Both the Chatham Capitol Theatre and Kiwanis Theatre are smoke-free facilities and comply with the Smoke Free Ontario legislation. Smoking outside the building must be 9 metres from an entrance. This includes all legislation on tobacco, e-cigarettes, and marijuana products.

In consideration of staff, volunteers and patrons who may have allergies, please avoid wearing cologne, perfume or other scented products.

Patrons who arrive late will be permitted access to the auditorium at a suitable break in the performance, as agreed to by the presenter of the production. Late patrons are not guaranteed access to their assigned seating and may be relocated to their assigned seating at intermission.

Patrons are requested to turn off/silence all cellular devices when entering the theatre auditoriums. The taking of photographs and recording is strictly forbidden unless indicated in pre-show announcements. Every show may have its unique policy, as there is a wide range of restrictions a show may place on the venue, including variations such as no cameras, no flash, and no video. Each show determines these policies to protect the performers.

No outside food or drink is permitted inside the theatres. Only items purchased at our in-house concessions will be allowed into the auditorium. Alcohol purchased at the concessions cannot be consumed outside of the theatres.

  • Capitol Theatre: The main bar is located on the west side of the lobby and offers a full range of beverages and snacks. All beverages purchased at the main bar are permitted in the main auditorium. Our second-floor bar is located in Mainstreet Lounge. This bar is typically opened for larger shows with balcony access.
  • Kiwanis Theatre: The main bar is located inside the Thames Art Gallery. It is accessible pre-show and during intermission. The secondary bar is located in the front lobby of the theatre.
