Services Offered at the Museum

The CK Museum is comprised of two floors of exhibition galleries featuring a variety of temporary and semi-permanent exhibits.

Out in the Open displays a portion of the museum’s three-dimensional artifacts in visible storage. The Imagination Station is a play-based learning space on the second floor of the museum. Other exhibitions change every 3-9 months.

Exhibits are developed to accommodate diverse audiences.

Tours are self-guided however museum staff and volunteers are trained, in accordance with the AODA, to offer assistance where required, such as:

  • verbal tours of the various exhibits
  • temporarily increasing the lighting in all exhibits for visitors with visual impairments

To complement these exhibits, the CK Museum offers a variety of curriculum-based education programs, public programs, and special events.

Admission

Admission is free. Donations are gratefully accepted.

We welcome visitors to the museum with their service animals.

Service animals are allowed in the parts of the CK Museum that are open to the public.

A service animal can be easily identified through visual indicators, such as when it wears a harness or a vest, or when it helps the person perform certain tasks.

When an animal cannot be easily identified as a service animal, our staff may ask for documentation (template, letter or form) from a regulated health professional that confirms the person needs the service animal for reasons relating to their disability.

A regulated health professional is defined as a member of one of the following colleges:

  • College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
  • College of Chiropractors of Ontario
  • College of Nurses of Ontario
  • College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • College of Optometrists of Ontario
  • College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
  • College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario

We welcome visitors to the museum with a support person.

A support person is also welcome to attend museum programming. Please contact the museum in advance to help us prepare at [email protected].

A person may provide their own assistive device for the purpose of visiting the CK Museum.

Exceptions may occur in situations where the Municipality has determined that the assistive device may pose a risk to the person or others at the museum.

We ensure that our staff are trained and familiar with various assistive devices may be used by customers with disabilities while accessing our services.

Staff will be available throughout the visit.

The CK Museum is committed to training all staff and volunteers in accessible customer service, other provincial accessibility standards, and aspects of the Ontario Human Rights Code that relate to persons with disabilities.

Training includes:

  • the purpose of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2025 and the requirements of the Customer Service Standards;
  • municipal policies related to the Customer Service Standards;
  • how to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities;
  • how to interact with people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or support person;
  • how to use the equipment or devices available on-site or otherwise that may help with providing goods, services, or facilities to people with disabilities;

We train all museum staff before they are interacting independently with museum visitors and provide training in respect of any changes to the policies.
