DESCRIPTION:Toronto Jazz Orchestra\nThe 18-piece Toronto Jazz Orchestra (TJO) was created in 1998 to perform music by some of the most important composers in jazz – writers like Thad Jones\, Bob Brookmeyer\, Phil Nimmons\, Rob McConnell and more. Over the past 28 years\, their repertoire has evolved to include compositions and arrangements ranging from classic swing tunes to the leading edge of contemporary jazz\, with an emphasis on Canadian composers and arrangers. The TJO seeks to educate\, entertain\, and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of big band jazz. \nSince 1998\, the TJO has performed regularly at Toronto’s Rex Hotel; they have also appeared in Beaches\, Lakefield\, Markham\, Brantford\, Kensington Market\, World of Jazz and Toronto Jazz Festivals. The TJO has performed at the Milton Centre for the Arts\, the Richmond Hill Performance Arts Centre\, Ottawa’s Shenkman Centre\, as part of the Welland-Port Colborne Concert Association and Sarnia Concert Association series\, and with Hugh’s Room Live. Their fourth CD\, 20\, was released in 2018. \nAs part of their regular performance schedule\, the TJO has undertaken special projects including: the Cuban Fire Suite (as recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra); an evening with Phil Nimmons\, featuring a performance of The Atlantic Suite; music from West Side Story\, featuring 12 new arrangements by 5 local composers; Miles Ahead\, with guest trumpeter Kevin Turcotte\, featuring the original Gil Evans arrangements from the Gil Evans/Miles Davis collaboration; the Big Band Gospel Project\, a collaboration with the Toronto Mass Choir; the Big Band Tap Revue\, featuring the TJO performing with five tap dancers; and more than a dozen editions of the Radiohead Jazz Project. The ensemble has also presented tributes to the orchestras of Stan Kenton\, Duke Ellington\, Buddy Rich and Thad Jones/Mel Lewis\, and was featured at the inaugural Toronto International Tap Dance Festival with soloist Ted Louis Levy. \nThe TJO has been honoured to perform with a variety of guest artists including local musicians Phil Nimmons and Kevin Turcotte; Canadians living elsewhere including Ingrid Jensen\, Christine Jensen\, Seamus Blake and Socalled; and Americans including Geoffrey Keezer and Grammy Award-winning vocalist Kurt Elling. \nToronto Jazz Orchestra founder\, Artistic Director and Conductor Josh Grossman is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Jazz Performance Program where he studied trumpet with Chase Sanborn and Kevin Turcotte.  He has performed in big bands under the direction of Phil Nimmons\, Paul Read\, Ron Collier and Paul Ashwell\, and is a regular member of the Chris Hunt Tentet. SUMMARY:I Mother Earth
DESCRIPTION:I Mother Earth\nI Mother Earth is a pioneering Canadian alternative rock band known for their explosive musicianship\, genre‑blending sound\, and high‑energy live shows. Here’s a polished\, theatre‑ready show blurb crafted in the same tone and style as your Howie Mandel example; concise\, professional\, and engaging. \nI Mother Earth (IME) is one of Canada’s most influential and adventurous rock bands\, blending alternative rock with funk\, progressive elements\, and expansive percussion‑driven jams. Formed in Toronto in 1990 by brothers Jagori and Christian Tanna\, the band quickly carved out a unique identity with their debut album Dig\, which earned them the 1994 Juno Award for Best Hard Rock Album and produced enduring singles like “Rain Will Fall\,” “Levitate\,” and “Not Quite Sonic.” \nTheir 1996 follow‑up\, Scenery and Fish\, became a landmark Canadian rock record\, achieving double‑platinum status and spawning hits such as “One More Astronaut\,” “Another Sunday\,” and “Used to Be Alright.” The album showcased IME’s signature mix of heavy grooves\, psychedelic textures\, and intricate musicianship\, solidifying their place among the country’s top rock acts of the ’90s. \nAfter a hiatus in the 2000s\, I Mother Earth reunited in 2012 and have since continued to perform to sold‑out crowds across Canada. Their live shows featuring either original vocalist Edwin or longtime frontman Brian Byrne remain a powerful reminder of the band’s dynamic range\, technical prowess\, and deep connection with fans. Recent performances\, including their 2024 appearance at Peterborough Musicfest\, highlight the band’s enduring appeal and the timeless energy of their catalogue. \nWith a legacy defined by innovation\, intensity\, and a sound that refuses to fit neatly into any one genre\, I Mother Earth continues to stand as one of Canada’s most compelling and beloved rock bands still pushing boundaries\, still electrifying audiences\, and still unmistakably IME. \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcLbQBTWZd8&list=OLAK5uy_lgA-X8cbkheOFcEbBkeLiZZDLLNiv44Ao

SUMMARY:Big Sugar
DESCRIPTION:Big Sugar\nBig Sugar’s 30th Anniversary “Hemi-Vision” Tour: celebrating 3 decades of the album that introduced “Diggin A Hole”\, “If I Had My Way” and “Gone for Good” to radio and Much Music fans across Canada. Big Sugar was an iron man test of musical endurance set against a backdrop of personal turmoil and creative pressure in the 1990s. The cultural experiment of Detroit blues meets Detroit Rock City meets Kingston Ghetto recipe became a force that burned like a vacant inner-city house fire. The unlikely success of the Roots Rock Reggae crew in Hugo Boss suits during the height of “grunge” bought the creative freedom to drive on. And drive on they have. \nThat musical spontaneous combustion continues within every live show. Powered now with passion\, laughter and comradery. Big Sugar’s throbbing bass lines\, arena rock drums and signature guitar tones bring the songs on “Hemi-Vision” to life reminding us how deeply satisfying a great rock show can be! \nGordie Johnson’s power trio featuring bassist Anders Drerup and drummer Root Valach have forged their musical bond during the wildly successful 500 POUNDS tour. Weaving blues and reggae through the wall of guitars and adding vocal harmonies that invoke Jamaica\, Motown or an East Coast kitchen party\, Big Sugar endures. \nThe 30th Anniversary Hemi-Vision Tour is a 2 set performance that sees the entire album performed live for the first time ever followed with a second set of favorites and rarities from the extensive Big Sugar catalogue. \nPlease share the evening of Roots Rock Reggae with Big Sugar!
